Type or paste two columns of numbers, color the points by group, and download the plot as PNG or SVG.
One row, one point.
x first, then y. The builder works out the rest.
- Two columns of numbers
-
The first numeric column runs along the bottom (x), the next one up the side (y). One row is one point. Type over the sample in the table, or switch to Text and paste columns from a spreadsheet or a CSV file.
Ad spend (USD),Trial signups 200,14 350,22 - Groups
-
Each extra column of y values is another group, with its own color in the legend. A point belongs to one group, so leave the other groups’ cells empty on its row. Up to 8 groups fit.
Page weight (KB),Mobile,Desktop 320,1.4, 300,,0.8 - Axis titles
-
Both axes are measures, so both deserve a name and a unit. Set them under More settings, Text: the label axis is x, the value axis is y.
- Point names
-
A column of text, like a product or a city, names each point. Tick “Show values on the chart” under More settings, Style to print the names beside the points.

With more than two numeric columns, pick the one for the horizontal axis and the ones to plot under More settings, Columns.
When a scatter plot says it best.
And when another chart says it better.
- Does one thing move with another?
- Price and sales, page weight and load time, hours of practice and scores. A cloud that leans up or down says the two are related; a round blob says they mostly aren’t.
- Clusters and outliers
- Points that bunch into groups, or the one that sits far from the rest, show up at a glance. That lone slow page in the sample is worth a look before any average is.
- Not for one measure over time
- If x is a date and each date has one value, join the points: a line graph shows the trend better. For categories, use a bar graph.

Questions

What does a scatter plot show?
Each point is one thing measured two ways: its position across is one measure and its height is the other. Together the points show whether, and how, the two measures move together.
Does a pattern mean one thing causes the other?
No. A scatter plot shows that two measures move together, not why. Both can follow a third thing, like ice cream sales and sunburns following the weather.
How do I plot two groups in different colors?
Give each group its own column of y values, after the x column, and leave a cell empty when the point belongs to the other group. Each column becomes a color in the legend.
Can it draw a trend line?
No. It shows the points as they are. For a fitted line, a spreadsheet’s trendline is the quickest place to get one.
How many points can it plot?
Up to 5,000 per group. Past a few hundred, points overlap and a dense cloud is harder to read, so a sample of the data often tells the story better.
Is it free, and is my data uploaded?
Free, with no account. The plot is drawn in your browser, and nothing you type or paste is uploaded. An editor link carries all your data after the # in the address, which browsers never send to a server.
